Empowered Voices Engagement Resource Library
What this library is
The Empowered Voices Engagement Resource Library is a curated collection of tools, frameworks, guidance, and training materials related to meaningful patient and public engagement in research and guideline development.
The resources in this library come from organizations such as NIH, PCORI, VA, NIHR, CIHR, academic centers, and patient-led initiatives. They span the full research lifecycle, from early priority setting and study design through conduct, interpretation, and dissemination.
This library was built to support people with lived experience (PWLE), researchers, caregivers, and others who are trying to engage thoughtfully and responsibly, whether they are new to engagement or already working as partners.
What this library is not
This is not an automated recommendation engine, and it is not a replacement for relationship-building or conversation.
Engagement is contextual. What works well in one study, setting, or community may not translate directly to another. The goal of this library is to help narrow the field to relevant, credible starting points, not to prescribe a single “right” approach.
How to use the library
Rather than browsing a long, static list, you can use the query form below to request resources that align with your role and what you are looking for.
The form asks a small number of questions about:
- who you are (for example, a person with lived experience, researcher, caregiver, or other),
- the general context or phase of work you are interested in,
- and how you would like to receive results.
Your responses are used to identify resources from the library that may be a good fit.
What happens after you submit the form
After you submit the form:
- Your request is recorded.
- Your responses are used to identify relevant resources from the Empowered Voices Engagement Resource Library.
- If you request email delivery, a short list of matching resources will be sent to you.
- If you choose not to receive email, your request still helps inform how the library is used and improved over time.
This process is intentionally careful and human-guided. It prioritizes relevance, clarity, and respect for the time and energy of everyone involved.
A note on roles and lived experience
Many people move between roles over time. A researcher may also be a person with lived experience. A caregiver may serve as an advisor or partner. The form is designed to accommodate that reality rather than force people into a single category.
If none of the options fully capture how you see yourself, choose the closest fit. Context matters more than labels.
About Empowered Voices
Empowered Voices is an effort to support people with lived experience in becoming informed, confident contributors to research, guideline development, and related decision-making processes, while also helping research teams engage more thoughtfully and effectively.
This library is a living resource. As standards evolve and new tools emerge, it will continue to grow and change.
